Frequently asked questions
Please check the details for each tour. On single-day private tours, you have the flexibility to enjoy a leisurely dip or swim up to 5000 meters—it's entirely your choice. For group tours, the daily distance is divided into two swims: one in the morning and one in the afternoon, allowing you to explore Montenegro's stunning waters at your own pace.
No. This is your holiday, so you may choose how much or little you swim.
The requirements depend on the tour you choose. For single-day private tours, no prior experience is necessary, as the swimming level is entirely up to you. For group tours, we recommend an intermediate level of open-water swimming proficiency to fully enjoy the experience. If the tour includes swimming 6-8 kilometers per day, please ensure you are a skilled swimmer or have completed relevant training in advance. We can also provide a training schedule to help you prepare and build confidence beforehand.
We recommend you swim a minimum of one kilometer several times a week in the weeks/months leading up to the tour to ensure your muscles are well prepared. Most swimmers choose to swim the freestyle stroke, however you are welcome to swim the stroke most comfortable for you.
Yes, although the priority of the tour is to enjoy the stunning swimming spots around Montenegro, we will have the opportunity to roam the cobblestone streets of Old Town Kotor, admire the mega yachts around Porto Montenegro, and explore the picturesque town of Perast. Please review the tour itinerary for further details.
Yes! Non-swimmers are welcome to join the tour. We may even be able to provide you with a kayak or SUP board if you wish to participate on the water. Please discuss this with us prior to confirming your booking. Alternatively, non-swimmers may wish to explore Montenegro by foot (please note, any activities not associated with the swimming tour will be at your own expense).
No. Any additional sightseeing is at your own expense.
This depends on the package you choose. Please refer to each individual tour inclusions/exclusions. Note: meals during sightseeing excursions are not included. Room service and mini-bar are not included in the price. Additional meals not specified in inclusions are not included.
Alcohol is not included in the tour price. Consumption of alcohol (including hotel room mini-bar) is at your own expense.
Single-day private tours are open to swimmers of all ages.
For group tours, participants must be at least 16 years old. It’s important that each swimmer, regardless of age, has the appropriate experience to safely and enjoyably participate in the chosen tour. Please make sure all participants are prepared and capable for the tour they plan to join. We are happy to provide you with a training schedule.
Yes. Please ensure you have travel insurance in place. Insurance must cover all activities you will undertake during the tour, so please ensure open water swimming is specified. We will require your travel insurance details prior to commencement.
Yes! We do not require a minimum number of guests for group tours to operate. You can book your travel with the assurance that the tour will proceed, even in the event that you're the sole participant!
We offer a 7-day cooling-off period for cancellations, applicable only if the tour is more than 90 days away. Refunds within this period will be subject to administrative fees, as well as any bank fees or currency conversion charges. For bookings made within 90 days of the tour, the cooling-off period does not apply. After the 7-day period, deposits are non-refundable.
Bookings can be transferred to another person, provided the transfer request is made more than 60 days before the tour's commencement and does not affect existing reservations. This means that a participant who is scheduled for a future date cannot use the transfer to cancel their own booking and replace it with another guest’s booking for an earlier date. Transfers must not disrupt or conflict with other participants’ arrangements. Please reach out to us to process any transfer requests and ensure a smooth transition.
Yes. If OBST cancels a tour, your deposit will be refunded into your nominated bank account.
Sure. You are welcome to wear either a bathing suit or wetsuit - whatever suits you best.
Safety is our main priority, so a tow float is highly recommended to assist with visibility. You are welcome to use other aids as you wish, such as fins or paddles.
Water support varies depending on the tour. Single-day adventure swims typically do not include support, while group tours provide kayak and/or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) assistance. We generally avoid using motorboats to maintain the serenity of nature—no engine noise, no petrol fumes—allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the peaceful natural surroundings.
Thankfully, sharks don’t roam the waters of Montenegro, so you can enjoy the swim without the fear of something chomping at your toes. We are swimming in a natural environment however, so we can’t escape all the elements. On occasion you may encounter a jellyfish or sea urchin. We highly encourage you to observe the sea floor as you enter and exit the water. On a really positive note, we may also at times encounter dolphins or turtles within Boka Bay.

Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather, and there may be times when conditions are unsuitable for open water swimming. If this happens during your tour, how you spend your time is entirely up to you—whether that’s unwinding with a massage or spa treatment (at your own expense) or exploring the nearby towns and villages to immerse yourself in Montenegro’s rich history and culture. If road conditions are safe and third-party suppliers permit, we may, at our discretion, offer a guided road tour to non-swimming sites such as Budva Old Town or Kotor Old Town. However, please note that sudden downpours in Montenegro can cause roads to become unsafe or flooded, which may impact our ability to offer this option.
