The requirements depend on the tour you choose. For single-day private tours, no prior experience is necessary, as the swimming level is entirely up to you. For group tours, we recommend an intermediate level of open-water swimming proficiency to fully enjoy the experience. If the tour includes swimming 6-8 kilometers per day, please ensure you are a skilled swimmer or have completed relevant training in advance. We can also provide a training schedule to help you prepare and build confidence beforehand.

We recommend you swim a minimum of one kilometer several times a week in the weeks/months leading up to the swimming adventure to ensure your muscles are well prepared. Most swimmers choose to swim the freestyle stroke, however you are welcome to swim the stroke most comfortable for you.

Yes, although the priority of the tour is to enjoy the stunning swimming spots around Montenegro, we will have the opportunity to roam the cobblestone streets of Old Town Kotor, admire the mega yachts around Porto Montenegro, and explore the picturesque town of Perast. Yes! Non-swimmers are welcome to join. We may even be able to provide you with a kayak or SUP board if you wish to participate on the water. Please discuss this with us prior to confirming your booking. Alternatively, non-swimmers may wish to explore Montenegro by foot (please note, any activities not associated with the swimming activity will be at your own expense).

No. Any additional sightseeing is at your own expense.

Single-day private tours are open to swimmers of all ages. Please note that OBST only offers swimming tours to people over 18 years of age. OBST may at their discretion accept people of a younger age who are accompanied at all times by an adult. It’s important that each swimmer, regardless of age, has the appropriate experience to safely and enjoyably participate in the chosen tour. Please make sure all participants are prepared and capable for the tour they plan to join. We are happy to provide you with a training schedule.

Yes. Please ensure you have travel insurance in place. Insurance must cover all activities you will undertake during the tour, so please ensure open water swimming is specified. We will require your travel insurance details prior to commencement.

Yes! We do not require a minimum number of guests to operate. You can book your travel with the assurance that the swimming adventure will proceed, even in the event that you're the sole participant!

A non-refundable 30% deposit is required at the time of booking. If full payment has been made and you cancel more than 90 days prior to the Tour start date, a partial refund of monies paid will be issued, minus the non-refundable 30% deposit and any applicable bank charges, currency conversion fees, or non-refundable accommodation costs. For cancellations made less than 90 days prior to departure, payments are non-refundable. In certain circumstances, and subject to availability, bookings may be transferred to another participant if the request is made more than 90 days prior to the Tour start date and a suitable replacement can be secured. A transfer fee may apply. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full details and conditions relating to transfers. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances that may require cancellation.

If OBST cancels a Tour for reasons within our reasonable control (and not due to Force Majeure), you may choose to receive a refund of monies paid or transfer to another available Tour. If a Tour is cancelled due to circumstances outside our control — including but not limited to war, government restrictions, border closures, pandemics, public health emergencies, unsafe sea conditions, or other Force Majeure events — no cash refunds will be issued. Sure. You are welcome to wear either a bathing suit or wetsuit - whatever suits you best.

Safety is our main priority, so a tow float is highly recommended to assist with visibility. You are welcome to use other aids as you wish, such as fins or paddles.

Water support varies depending on the tour. Single-day adventure swims typically do not include support, while group tours provide kayak and/or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) assistance. We generally avoid using motorboats to maintain the serenity of nature—no engine noise, no petrol fumes—allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the peaceful natural surroundings.

Thankfully, sharks don’t roam the waters of Montenegro, so you can enjoy the swim without the fear of something chomping at your toes. We are swimming in a natural environment however, so we can’t escape all the elements. On occasion you may encounter a jellyfish or sea urchin. We highly encourage you to observe the sea floor as you enter and exit the water. On a really positive note, we may also at times encounter dolphins or turtles within Boka Bay.

Open-water swimming is weather-dependent. While we carefully plan each Tour around favourable conditions, there may be occasions when sea or weather conditions are unsuitable or unsafe for swimming. If this occurs during your Tour, OBST will prioritise participant safety and may adjust the itinerary accordingly. Alternative activities may include relaxation time, independent exploration of nearby towns and villages, or, where road conditions are safe and third-party suppliers permit, a guided road excursion to non-swimming sites such as Budva Old Town or Kotor Old Town. Please note that weather in Montenegro can change quickly, and road conditions may also be affected. No refunds or credits are provided for itinerary adjustments or missed swims resulting from weather conditions or other circumstances beyond OBST’s control. Group Booking Terms and Conditions These Terms and Conditions apply to group bookings made with Ocean Blue Swimming Tours (OBST). They are designed to make the booking process clear and straightforward for everyone involved. 1. Group Definition A group booking applies to any reservation made for 10 or more swimmers under one organiser (the Host). 2. Deposit and Payment Schedule • A 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the group booking. • The remaining 70% balance is due at least 90 days prior to the start of the tour. • OBST will issue two invoices: one for the deposit, and one for the final balance. • Individual invoices are not available for group bookings. • All invoices must be paid within 14 days of issue to maintain your reservation. 3. Complimentary Host Place • For groups of 10 or more paying swimmers, the Host will attend the tour free of charge. • The complimentary place includes accommodation and the swim tour, based on twin-share arrangements. • To qualify for the free Host place: • The total group number must be an even number of no less than 10 participants (to accommodate twin-share arrangements); and • The deposit must be paid in full within 14 days of invoice issue. • If payment cannot be made within this timeframe, communication must take place with OBST as soon as possible to discuss an extension. Failure to communicate may result in the complimentary Host place no longer applying. 4. Responsibilities of the Host • The Host will act as the main contact for the group and is responsible for: • Receiving and settling all invoices on behalf of the group; and • Distributing OBST documentation, including the Swimmer Questionnaire, to each participant and ensuring forms are completed and returned within the requested timeframe. • OBST will not issue individual communications or invoices to group members regarding payments or paperwork. 5. Cancellations and Amendments • The 30% deposit is non-refundable. • Any reduction in swimmer numbers may affect eligibility for the complimentary Host place. • If a swimmer chooses to withdraw, they may be replaced by another swimmer, provided OBST is notified in writing and all relevant details are supplied in good time. • All cancellations or booking amendments must be made in writing by the Host. 6. General • These terms apply in addition to OBST’s Standard Terms and Conditions. • OBST reserves the right to make reasonable amendments to these terms before booking confirmation.
